- scissors;
- hammer;
- flat screwdriver;
- PVA glue;
- wrench;
- self-tapping screws and screwdriver;
- side cutters and pliers;
- stapler and staples.
To restore the sofa to your liking, buy the following consumables: bodice tape, braid, foam rubber, piping and fabric. Repair of sofas at home takes place in stages, first you need to disassemble it, repair damaged parts and, if necessary, also re-tighten it.
The first stage is disassembly
When repairing leather sofas, you will need to remove the armrests. You will also need to remove the locks connecting the back, side drawer and seat.
Restoring sofas is a tricky business, so so that you don't have any problems during assembly, mark all the parts that should be located on the right and left.
Using pliers and a screwdriver, remove staples and nails. Remove the covers, in the future we will need them to make sketches. After you remove the fabric, remove the fillers. Before you start repairing sofas, you should only have springs left.
Now take a knife and cut out the foam rubber along the frame of the furniture being repaired at home, then glue the spike joints with glue, and use self-tapping screws to fix it.
Furniture assembly
After fixing the spring block, you will need to cover it with coarse calico and secure it around the perimeter with staples. You will need to lay foam rubber on it, but just do not forget to grease the material with glue in advance. Such fixation of the foam rubber is necessary so that it cannot move under the upholstery. Stick a padding polyester on the foam rubber to give the furniture more volume.
Then turn the covers inside out and mark them. To do this, draw a solid line over two parts and mark them.
At the same time, remember that the restoration of sofas is a rather laborious and difficult task, therefore, to make it easier for yourself a little work, you should apply as many symbols as possible to the markup, so it will be much more convenient for you to sew covers. It is recommended to apply at least 2 marks on shorter parts, and at least 4 marks on long ones.
After you mark out the covers, gently rip them apart at the seams.
Having the necessary sketches, stretching the sofa will not take you so much time. They will need to be placed on new fabric and circled. In this case, you should apply all marks only from the wrong side of the fabric. After completing all these steps, carefully cut out the details of the new covers using scissors, not forgetting about the notes. And then sew them, matching all the marks.
How to upholster a sofa
Replacement of the upholstery is carried out as follows. Slip new covers over the furniture frame, and then secure them in place. Do-it-yourself upholstering of a sofa is a simple matter, but still, while fixing the covers, do not forget to stretch and straighten the fabric so that wrinkles and folds do not form. Otherwise, hauling sofas will take you much more time and at the same time you will spend a lot of energy and nerves.
Assembly of furniture should not cause any difficulties for you. It is performed after the repair of the sofas has been completed and their upholstery has been completed. You will need to match all the labels and install the lock in its original place. Finally, we install the sidewalls.
By performing such simple actions, you can easily and quickly repair sofas at home.
Repair of the frame and transformation mechanism
